Be surrounded by art-making

• Multi-media: Sebastian Lockwood is a poet, storyteller and faculty member at New Hampshire Institute of Art. He’ll be performing “Paint Caesar Dead” Thursday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. While he tells about the life of Caesar, artists will create original work, which you can buy after the show. Lockwood (Lumenarts.com) holds a Master’s in Education and Anthropology from Cambridge University, U.K. The public event is at French Auditorium, 148 Concord St. in Manchester (623-0313, nhia.edu).

• New space: The opening reception for the first Darkroom Gallery photography show, “1,” is Friday, Oct. 24, from 5 to 8 p.m. Darkroom is inside Hunt’s Photo and Video at 4A Vinton St. in Manchester, 606-3322, www.darkroomgallery.net. The show runs through Nov. 24.

• Gallery talks: Stop by New Hampshire Antique Co-op’s 25th Anniversary Open House weekend for gallery events. Jason Hackler guides a tour of the latest fine art in the Co-op’s Upstairs Gallery Saturday, Oct. 25, at 2 p.m. Author and decorative historic painter Linda Carter Lefko discusses 19th-century wall murals Sunday, Oct. 26, at 2 p.m. Open house hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 25, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 26. • Currier tours: Things are busy at the Currier Museum of Art. Check out a Focus Tour on “Architectural Parallels between Traditional Japanese Residential Architecture and the Zimmerman House” Sunday, Oct. 26, at 3 p.m. at the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home. Focus Tours inside the museum this month include “Currier CSI: Crimes, Schemes, and Intrigue,” Friday, Oct. 24, at noon, and Oct. 26 at 3 p.m. Try your hand at “Political Portraits: Silk-screening and Drawing” in their Warhol Workshop Saturday, Oct. 25, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Currier Art Center. The fee is $40. Learn about “Andy Warhol’s Pop Politics” in a Currier ARTalk, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. The Currier is at 150 Ash St. in Manchester (www.currier.org, 669-6144).

• Care for art: Storage benches and three-drawer cabinets are painted with whimsical and traditional designs for the fourth functional art fundraiser for The CareGivers, Inc. See the 50 items displayed at businesses around Manchester and Nashua until Oct. 24. The Art of Caring auction is Thursday, Oct. 30, at 6 p.m., at the Crowne Plaza in Nashua. Tickets are free if you order one early at www.caregiversnh.org. Also bid online there through Oct. 29. Admission costs $15 at the door. CareGivers helps frail, elderly and disabled people maintain independence. Call 622-4948.

• Maternal images: The New American Mothers Cultural Arts Exhibit showcases artists, writers and musicians in the state. The exhibit closes Monday, Oct. 27, with an awards reception from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Bedford Library, 3 Meetinghouse Road in Bedford (472-2300). 

• Copper and camera: Meet artists Ken Harvey and Martin Cannata on Thursday, Oct. 30, between 4:30 and 6 p.m. at UNH Manchester, 286 Commercial St. “An Eclectic Focus” includes a series of photographs by Harvey taken from various locations around the world. Cannata’s “A Study in Sound & Motion” exhibit involves sculptures made of a copper piping. Call 641-4313 or see www.unhmgrad.unh.edu.
