• Celebrity antics: A TV actress tries to “get away from it all” in New England in A Bad Year for Tomatoes, according to the Majestic Theatre. The Majestic presents the comedy by John Patrick, Friday, March 6, and Saturday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, March 8, at 1:30 p.m. Tickets including dinner cost $32 on Friday and Saturday, and $28 on Sunday. • Andy’s in 2009: Fans of the a capella, check out Ball in the House (www.ballinthehouse.com) Friday, March 13, at 7:30 p.m. at Peterborough Town Hall in a benefit for Andy’s Summer Playhouse of Wilton. Andy’s is back in business for 2009 after alumni and community support helped to raise about $25,000 last fall when Andy’s was in danger of closing. Auditions for their 39th season for ages 8 through 18 are Saturday, March 14, at Club Cannon in Peterborough, and Saturday, March 21, at the Amato Center in Milford. • Corporate empire: Paying to pee is the basis for the satire Urinetown. Franklin Footlight Theatre presents the musical Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. from March 6 through March 14, with a matinee Saturday, March 7, at 2 p.m. at the Franklin Opera House, 316 Central St. in Franklin. A penny drive was held to gather pennies for props, which will go into the Jule C. Finley Scholarship Fund. Patrons can donate pennies at the show, too. • Monologues: Eve Ensler used interviews to create the play The Vagina Monologues. Originally performed by Ensler, The Vagina Monologues is now staged by community and college groups to benefit VDay, a global social movement to stop violence against women and girls (www.vday.org). Area women, including professionals, artists and mothers, perform The Vagina Monologues at the Milford Town Hall on Friday, March 6, at 7 p.m. and the Wilton Town Hall Theatre on Sunday, March 8, at 4:30 p.m. Tickets cost $10 at the door. Proceeds benefit Bridges of Milford and Nashua, which helps victims and survivors of sexual and domestic violence. RAINN, a national anti-sexual assault organization, and the Village of Hope Project in the Congo will also benefit. Call 654-6201.
• Les Mis: Jude Bascom, Wendy Melillo, Blake Leister and Nikki Aubert are behind a new Derry-based community company S.P.A.T.S.—Specializing in the Performing Arts, Theatre and Stage Craft. They’ve been working in theater around the area for years, including at the Palace Theatre, Majestic Theatre, Bedford Off Broadway, Music and Drama Company, Kids Coop and at Saint Anselm College. Auditions for their spring show, Les Miserable, for actors between ages 13 and 21, are Monday, March 9, and Wednesday, March 11, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Adams Memorial Opera House at 29 West Broadway in Derry.
