• End of the summer: The Winnipesaukee Playhouse closes its professional summer stock season with Driving Miss Daisy, featuring the return of Broadway actress Carolyn Kirsch, who won a NH Theatre Award for her performance in The Glass Menagerie at Winnipesaukee Playhouse last summer. On Broadway, she’s worked with legends like Bob Fosse and Michael Bennett. This Alfred Uhry play runs nightly at 8 p.m. through Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Alpenrose Plaza, routes 11B and 3 in Weirs Beach, Laconia (366-7377, www.winniplayhouse.com, $19-$21).
• Winning tickets: The Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord is offering its third annual “Season Ticket Sweepstakes.” Buy a raffle ticket for $35, two for $50, or five for $100 for a chance to win a grand prize of a pair of tickets to every Capitol Center 2009-2010 season show from Sept. 25 this year through Sept. 25, 2010. Two winners will be chosen for second prizes, a pair of tickets to three shows, and 10 will be chosen for third prizes, a pair for one show. • Lend a hand: Community theater company Bedford Off Broadway is looking for volunteer board members. It’s a “working board,” according to an e-mail from BOB. • Go team: The Alchemists’ Workshop in Henniker is seeking New Hampshire writers to send in scripts (suitable for family audiences) for its Ten Minute Play project funded by McIninch Foundation. See www.alchemistsworkshop.org for details.
In other Alchemists’ news, their “Youth Stimulus Team” of 18- to 24-year-olds whose performing arts jobs were funded by the New Hampshire Department of Education’s Youth Stimulus funds this summer was scheduled to have dinner on the lawn of the state capitol with Governor John Lynch Friday, Aug. 21, for an Ashoka’s Youth Venture celebration (www.genv.net) according to Alchemists’ Workshop. Alchemists’ team worked on stage and off stage and helped present Henniker’s Tuesday concert series among other work.
• High school crowd: Troy and Gabriella and their classmates have summer jobs at the Lava Springs Country Club in Disney’s High School Musical 2. The Palace Theatre closes a run of its Community Summer Stock repertory production of this show with performances Saturday, Aug. 29, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 30, at 2 p.m. at 80 Hanover St. in Manchester (668-5588, palacetheatre.org, $10-$20).
In other teen news, Teen Actorsingers is staging a revue of Rodgers & Hammerstein tunes from shows like South Pacific and The Sound of Music. “A Grand Night for Singing” is Friday, Aug. 28, and Saturday, Aug. 29, at 7:30 p.m., at the Jan Streeter Theatre, at 14 Court St. in Nashua (www.actorsingers.org, 320-1870, $12-$15).
