Your guide to summer 2007
By Amy Diaz adiaz@hippopress.com

For Hollywood, summer began on May 4 with the opening weekend of Spider-Man 3.

That movie (which as of this past weekend has made $281.9 million) kicked off a season of giant sequels and cinematic events (who among us, deep down, isn?t at least a little bit curious about Michael Bay?s forthcoming Transformers?)

But there?s this other part of summer too ? the outdoors, I think it?s called. All over southern New Hampshire, stuff?s happening in the real world this summer ? music, art, festivals, sports and, of course, even more movies.

Theater: Putting the camp in camp
By Heidi Masek hmasek@hippopress.com

Drama camp around here might not mean the quintessential cabin in the woods near a lake. However, there are plenty of choices for stage-crazy kids or serious teens.

Josh Logan spent seven weeks last summer as a contestant on the CBS reality show Rock Star Super Nova. Originally from Massachusetts, he now lives in Manchester and is plugging his about-to-be-released CD Gone Tomorrow, Here Today.

People: It's his business

A member of Goffstown?s Zoning Board of Adjustment and Economic Development Council, Bill Wynne retired from his job on April 1 and started a Web site dedicated to the town in which he lived and served. The Goffstown Business Directory (www.03045.org) lists pretty much every business in town, and businesses willing to pony up a bit of cash get a ?premium? listing with photos and more information. Nonprofits and churches get premium pages for free.

Longshots: Down 2-0 M's for playoff payoff
by Dave Long

I love playoff time in the spring. Especially now that they put the games on at night in the weekend and you don?t have to spend beautiful spring days inside watching TV. Not that we?ve had to worry about it very much this century, or in the ?90s for that matter, given the sad state of the Celtics and Bruins during that time.

Techie: Gadgets for nothing
By John ?jaQ? Andrews jandrews@hippopress.com

I got a free MP3 player the other day.

The actual player did, indeed, cost me zero dollars, but I did have to jump through a few small hoops to get it. That?s right, I fell for one of those ?Get free swag for taking our survey!!!* (*details apply)? banner ads. Truth be told, it?s not the first time, but a surprising number of those offers are actually legitimate.
