Frequently Asked Questions
When does voting start and end?
Voting begins at 12:01 a.m. on February 1 and ends at 11:59 p.m. February 28.
How do I vote?
Voting takes place online. See the link above to go to this year's ballot. There are oodles of categories — vote for your favorites in at least 15 categories to make sure your ballot is counted. Only one vote per computer will be counted.
Who are the nominees?
You, the readers, get to make all the decisions here. You pick your favorites and we tally the votes — that means all your favorite restaurants, salons, personalities and more are on the same footing each year. Pick your favorite local people and businesses.
Why can I only vote for local businesses?
The readers' poll is all about what you think is the very best about southern New Hampshire. Everybody in the country gets McDonald's fries and Wendy's hamburgers. National chains are not counted — this poll is about our local Bests. (Note: Businesses that are part of small regional chains and organizations such as the YMCA are eligible.)
Why don't you have a category for best mac and cheese?
Though most of the categories stay the same, new categories are added every year. If you have a great idea for a new category next year, write firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll consider your suggestions when the time comes to make next year's list.
How do you count the votes?
Because voters type in their answers we manually count all the votes to ensure spelling variations are counted in the results.
How are winners chosen?
We count all the votes and the person, business or place with the most votes wins.
