Advertising personnel may not share information about a HippoPress advertising customer with anyone outside HippoPress. It against the policy of this newspaper for advertising personnel to pass along advertiser information to the news gathering staff (the writers and editors). HippoPress employees engaged in selling advertising are strictly prohibited from selling, promising or implying that an advertiser or potential advertisers will get preferential treatment from the news gathering staff.
HippoPress recognizes that work done by the news gathering staff (generally referred to as reporters, editors, editorial assistance and staff writers) must be independent and perceived as independent. Accordingly, news gathering employees are expressly prohibited from engaging in political activities, to include protests, campaigning and placing bumper stickers or other partisan stickers or markings on their automobiles and outside of their homes. News gathering employees are prohibited from taking gifts or money from subjects they cover or may cover as part of their job at HippoPress. News gathering employees are also prohibited from using their position at HippoPress for personal benefit, including accepting drinks, gifts or services beyond $10 value. Advertising in Hippo or refraining from advertising will have no impact on editorial coverage.
Hippo's Best Of
Hippo's Best Of is an annual readers' poll in which readers vote for their favorite local celebrities, places and businesses. The Best Of is expressly a local poll and chains will not be included. Hippo counts votes for each category and then lists the winners in an issue of the Hippo and a subsequent magazine. All voting counting is conducted by the editorial department and is not influenced in any way by the advertising department. All selections are final. The Best Of list is property of HippoPress LLC and may not be reproduced without express permission of HippoPress.
