Artist in the house — 07/13/23

In this week’s cover story we take a look at some of the area artist (and musicians and culinary artists) in residence programs and the events where you can meet the artists — starting with the Currier Museum of Art’s Summer Block Party this Saturday featuring current artist in residence Calder Kamen (pictured above and on the cover with her dog Pixel in a photo courtesy of the Currier).

Sweet scoops — 07/06/23

John Fladd (who took the photo at right and on the cover) isn’t just Hippo’s resident cocktail guy, he’s also a long-time home ice cream maker. He discusses technique (you don’t have to have an ice cream machine to make your own ice cream) and flavor (bourbon in your chocolate?) in this cool and creamy look at making ice cream at home. Meanwhile, Matt Ingersoll gives us a peek at how the pros make their scoops.

berry season The time is (almost) ripe for berries! This week’s cover story dives into the berry harvest season at local farms, starting with strawberries in June, followed by raspberries, blueberries and blackberries later in the summer.
